Throwdown No.242 – 12/06/15

3 years ago | Photos: Cover Image: Red Bull Content Pool

Did anyone else notice how much KTM dominated racing all over the world this past weekend? Kirk Gibbs won the Manjimup 15,000, Toby Price won Finke, Ryan Dungey won at Muddy Creek, Kailub Russell won the John Penton GNCC, Jonny Walker won the Erzberg Rodeo and Ronnie Renner won Step Up at X Games. There were loads of second and third places finishes scattered through there, as well (including a 3-3 finish scored by Australia’s Matthew Phillips at the Greek Enduro World Championship rounds). Team Orange!

Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey currently holds a 38-point lead over RCH Racing Suzuki’s Ken Roczen, heading to High Point this weekend. Third in the standings, impressively, is Yoshimura Suzuki’s Blake Baggett. In the 250 class, Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin sits just six points ahead of Dungey’s teammate, Marvin Musquin. Too early to say who’s going to win this year?

The “silly season” as they call it in football is kicking off early for MXGP riders. Sounds like Clement Desalle, Jeremy van Horebeek, Ken de Dycker, Valentin Guillod, Jordi Tixier, Max Anstie and Dylan Ferrandis are about to start being shuffled around, prior to the 2016 season. Read more in this week’s MXGP Insider column.

Motorcycling New Zealand has announced six possible candidates to represent Team New Zealand at the 2015 Motocross of Nations. Ben Townley, Cody Cooper, Josiah Natzke, Kayne Lamont, and brothers, John and Michael Phillips, will all be fighting for spots. Who do you think deserves the MX1, MX2 and Open positions?

What’s Jay Marmont been up to since he retired? Find out by clicking here. Our man Jeremy Hammer caught up with the former Aussie MX and SX champ at the Manjimup 15,000, where he was racing a Husqvarna.

Following on from the success of our popular Transmoto 12-Hour events, we’re officially launching the Transmoto 6-Hour. We’re in the final stages of preparation for the inaugural running, which will take place on July 18-19 at the Gunns Gully Grasslands in Stroud, NSW (an exclusive location where our “Day In The Vineyard” event was staged late last year). We’ll be opening up entries for our Ironman, Pairs and Team-of-Three options NEXT WEEK, so save the date and be ready to grab a ticket!

KTM Desert Racing Team’s Toby Price scored victory at the 2015 Tatts Finke Desert race, celebrating 40 years of the iconic Australian event. Price, who has three previous Finke victories to his credit (2010, 2012 and 2014) made this year’s event a perfect one, scoring the fastest time in prologue before cleaning up both legs of the race. Price and his Team Manager, Ben Grabham, are now the second most winningest riders of Finke with four wins each. Next year, Price will hopefully look to level Randall Gregory’s record of five wins.

Australia’s Matthew Phillips currently sits second in the E3 Enduro World Championship, 22 points behind Husqvarna’s Mathias Bellino, following his impressive 3-3 finishes in Greece over the weekend. The EWC will move to Italy on June 20-21.

Erzberg. Is. So. So. So. So. Gnarly.

Props to all X Games riders who took home Gold over the weekend in Austin, Texas. Big shout-out to Australia’s Jarryd McNeil, who finally scored that medal he’s been chasing for so many years in Best Whip. All highlights from Moto X events can be found here.

The Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour has reached Athens. Australia’s Josh Sheehan topped qualifying just hours ago. To stay up to date with what’s going on, follow @gobadirt on Instagram.
